Local Songwriter/Producer Francis Galluccio Speaks Out
On Hits Songs, Charity Work and More
by Barbara Bales
Songwriter / producer / publisher Francis Galluccio is the co-owner of a highly successful music library. He has also been writing and producing for famed producer Ric Wake (Wake Productions / Sony / Epic) for five years. Among the artists Francis has written for include Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, Enrique Englesias, Destiny's Child, Kelly Osbourne...and Celine Dion. Today, Francis is beaming...and for good reason. He proudly announces that "When The Broken Hearted Love Again" (artist: Danielle Bollinger), a song he co-wrote, has reached the #9 position (and is officially a Top 10 dance hit in the USA) on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charts as of the September 17, 2005 Billboard issue. "The full-length CD is slated for release some time in January, but '...Broken Hearted...' has done very, very well without a CD release," he begins. "Chris Cox, a remix artist, got hold of the track, did a remix, and the rest is history. Esntion, the record label to which Danielle Bollinger is signed, plans to release '...Broken Hearted...' as a single to pop radio and once it crosses over, it will bring us a lot more exposure. And now, Esntion wants another hit from us.
I am excited, too, because the new original series, 'Palmetto Pointe' - which is aired on i independent television, formally PAX - has licensed '...Broken Hearted...' for the September 11th episode. Another cool thing is that the song is on the in-store playlist of Abercrombie & Fitch stores nationwide." Also in September, Francis was offered a shot at writing a theme for a children's show which had just been pitched to Nickelodeon. "That would be a lot of fun!" he says. ...Now back to Celine Dion. "When The Wrong One Loves You Right", a song that Francis co-wrote, is on Miss Dion's 2002, Multi-Platinum album, A New Day Has Come. To date, the album has sold ten million-plus copies worldwide. Francis is still awed by the fact that Celine, along with Destiny's Child, performed "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" live on national television, on CBS-TV, simulcast with all the territories of Canada and several other countries. "Although the track was never released as a single, many people believed that it should have been," he notes. "Jessica Simpson had originally recorded 'When The Wrong One Loves You Right' and it was supposed to have appeared on her debut record, Irresistible A few months later, Celine, who was then coming out of retirement, heard the song and loved it. Out of thousands of submissions she'd received from songwriters who were clamoring to be on her next record, 'When The Wrong One...' made it on to her album...and it sold very well."
Francis admits to sitting in his studio and writing pop songs, "all day long". The Long Island native once cut his teeth as a guitarist / background vocalist / percussionist in a band that played the Manhattan club circuit. "We did the Bitter End, CBGB's, Kenny's Castaways, Arlene's Grocery and had huge draws everywhere we played."
Three years ago, he teamed up with composer / producer / music supervisor, John Sands, to create Auracle Music, a music library company which supplies background and feature music to film and television, as well as assigns songwriters to compose for "boutique" clients. Auracle's music and themes have been featured on television shows such as "Auracle Music has 30 songwriters - myself included - who do custom-scoring / creating background music and themes for clients," Francis informs me. "W e supply our clients with a library of existing music. Our writers have custom-scored several DVD video games, too, like Shrek 2 and Madagasgar for Dreamworks, as well as cartoons, such as Shaman King and Mew Mew Power, on FoxBox. We also supplied the music for The Maxim Swimsuit DVD; that one was fun! We have done several themes, such as World's Strongest Man ESPN, Gridiron Battle of the NFL Stars ESPN, British Open Memories ABC, to name a few. There are too many to list, but there is a list of credits on the website." Since the company's inception, the phones have not stopped ringing. Francis balances his role as an artist with that of a business owner with grace and aplomb.
"I had been in the music library business before forming Auracle, so it was a natural progression for me," he says. "I had originally started writing for an established music library and many of my songs seemed to be chosen for use on television shows. I was writing background music for shows like Maury Povich and Sally Jesse Raphael.... At that time, I was constantly making contacts in the music business and I was working with world-class musicians. I was always in the studio recording my own material, trying to become an artist. Plus, I have continually met tons of musicians through my work with Ric Wake."
It was his gift for songwriting coupled with his connections and adroit business skills that initially motivated Francis to launch his first music library. In 2000, he and a business partner created Reaction Music. "24 CD's came out of Reaction and our music was on tv shows like The Ananda Lewis Show, ElimiDate, Shipmates, Jenny Jones, Forgive and Forget and many others....It was very successful." After departing from Reaction, Francis and two other partners formed a new music libary, called Three Music, which resulted in 30 CD's. "The company was based in California and we ultimately parted ways, but I am still getting royalties, Another one of his own professional goals is to "embark on jingles"...although Auracle Music has already embarked on the "jingle bells" spirit...so to speak. For the past three seasons, the music which viewers have heard throughout the entire live NBC-TV broadcast of the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Plaza, is that of Auracle Music! Francis explains. "Auracle was given the opportunity several years ago to write the theme for the show, and we rose to the occasion. The producers of the show were so impressed with the theme that they asked us to supply more Christmas music in the 'Big Band' vein, which we did and have been doing so every year since. We've done Big Band Christmas , Jazz Trio Christmas , Pop Rock Christmas and are working on Hip Hop Christmas ."
Does Auracle plan to release any of its CD's to the public? "
Talk about multi-tasking, Francis also finds the time to do charity work and to raise money for the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency "Being a songwriter has been great so far," he offers, "but my work with the charities is definitely a priority. And right now, getting housing for the people in New Orleans after what Katrina has done...that's what's really important."
